Atty. Salvador Panelo to Open Mayor Duterte’s BPI Account at Julia Vargas

The legal counsel of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte of Davao City headed by his lawyer, Atty. Salvador Panelo was already given the go-signal to open the record of the mayor’s bank account that is being questioned by Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV. In an interview with some reporters on Friday afternoon, Mayor Duterte was quoted as saying “At least I can tell you na hindi talaga P200 million. Bahala na sila ni Sal Panelo mag-argue diyan,” Duterte told reporters on Friday.

The 71-year-old Mayor Rodrigo Duterte became the constant attack by his opponents on various news media aside from the attack made through black propaganda. Mayor Duterte was also accused by Sen. Antonio Trillanes of having hidden wealth amounting to P211 million stashed at the BPI branch in Julia Vargas Avenue in Pasig City.

Sen. Trillanes is a known ally of Sen. Grace Poe who was allegedly connected to the powerful Cojuangco clan as some evidences on social media proving that the senator was supported by businessman Danding Cojuangco.

The senator also challenged Mayor Duterte, the leading presidential candidates in various political sorties and the nationwide presidential preference poll conducted by various agencies. As part of Mayor Duterte’s response, on Friday, Mayor Duterte dared to stay true to his word.

Mayor Rody Duterte vehemently denied the allegations thrown at him by Sen. Trillanes who accused the future president of the Philippines having a hidden wealth but according to the mayor, his BPI account has “less than P211 million.”

In a statement Friday, Trillanes said the opening of the accounts “should not be limited to the current account balance alone.”

“It should also include the transaction history of the past nine years,” he said. “This is important because, if Duterte has already withdrawn the money before Monday, then the total amount of transactions would not be reflected on the current account balace.”
