Mayor Duterte Instrumental in the Release of NPA’s Abducted Cops

The leading presidential candidate, Mayor Duterte was instrumental in the release of the five policemen which was captured by the communist rebels who were members of the New People’s Army in Davao City. The captured five policemen were already release by the rebels through the efforts of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.

The communist rebels freed the five policemen in Paquibato district in Davao City after the mayor of the city made an effort and talked to their captives for their immediate release to their respective families.

According to reports, last April 16, members of the NPA seized the station commander and four members of the Paquibato police station after staging an attack on a government militia detachment and they were held captive for 10 days until Mayor Duterte reached out to the NPA and convinced them to release the government forces.

Based upon the records of the PNP, those who were held captive by the NPA in Davao City were Chief Inspector Leonardo Tarongoy, Police Officer 3 Rosenie Cabuenas, PO3 Rudolph Pacete, PO2 Neil Arellano and PO3 Abdul Azis Ali.

Chief Insp. Milgrace Driz, Davao City Police Office spokesperson, said the freed five policemen were turned over to Duterte around 4:30 p.m. The freed policemen were then received at the police headquarters by the families of the victims with officials Chief Supt. Manuel Gaerlan and Sr. Supt. Vicente Danao.
