ABS-CBN Misquotes Mayor Duterte Engrages Netizens

The highly anticipated third and last presidential debates featuring presidential candidates Mayor Duterte, VP Binay, Sen. Miriam, Sen. Grace Poe and former DILG Secretary Mar Roxas became the hottest topics online on Sunday but one of the most interesting part of the debate when the host TV network misquoted Mayor Duterte’s statement.

Netizens showed their dismay online after the statement of leading presidential candidate Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte during the presidential debate was misquoted and even posted on the official Twitter account of ABS-CBN.

Some netizens and even celebrities who witness the presidential debates shared their sentiments on social media for alleged bias broadcasting of ABS-CBN and the spread of wrong information during the time of the presidential debate.

According to ABS-CBN News Twitter Post, Mayor Duterte stated: “But if they don’t agree, I will go to the nearest border, wave the PH flag, and fire at them.” #PiliPinasDebates2016″

The statement of ABS-CBN News on their Twitter post was indeed different from what the Mayor really said. CNN Philippines posted the following quotes of Mayor Duterte: “I will ask to be brought to the nearest border and plant a flag there. I will say “this is ours.”

The mistake made by ABS-CBN on their social media account was bombarded by negative comments from the supporters of the Davao City mayor who noted that the station was so biased on their reporting and hosting the PiliPinas Debates in Pangasinan.

Due to the popularity of the misquoted statement of Mayor Duterte, ABS-CBN recognized its mistake and apologized to Filipinos but some of the supporters of Mayor Duterte keeps on complaining the network that hosted the presidential debate.
