Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, the most popular presidential candidate on social media, who served as a prosecutor before becoming Davao City Mayor said when the Supreme Court decide in favor of Grace Poe is the day that the SC goes against law school lessons.
The mayor also noted that he respect the Supreme Court decision but don’t agree with it. He was quoted as saying “I respect it, but I don’t agree with it kasi maski magtanong ka sa kahit sinong abugado, isang semestro ‘yan, political law, kabaliktaran sa lahat ng sinasabi ng mga professor,” he told reporters.
Duterte said that, in law school, he and his colleagues were taught that a natural-born Filipino is one who is a Filipino the moment they are out of their mother’s body.
“Lahat kami ng abogado diyan tutol sa Supreme Court. ‘Natural-born,’ paglabas mo sa tiyan ng nanay mo Pilipino ka na. That is natural-born, natural ang pagka-Pilipino,” he explained.
According to Mayor Duterte the Supreme Court decision letting Sen. Grace Poe to run may plunge the presidency into a crisis if the senator turns out to be American after all. “Baka two years after, kung may magsabi, may makitang ebidensiya at sabihin Americano talaga iyan, naloko na,” he said during a public gathering in Valenzuela City on Wednesday, March 9.
Before Mayor Duterte’s decision to run for President, he stated earlier that one of the reason why he decided to finally run for the highest office was the decision of the Comelec to allow Sen. Grace Poe as an official presidential candidate.
