Mayor Duterte Invited by the US Embassy to Discuss Stance on Spratlys

Mayor Rodrigo Duterte the future president of the Republic of the Philippines revealed to the media that he was invited by the US Embassy in Manila. The tough-talking mayor stated that US Embassy wants to know his plans with regard to the territorial dispute in the South China Sea if he wins the elections.

The scheduled meeting between Mayor Duterte and the US Embassy is a good sign according to some volunteers of Mayor Duterte because the US is already preparing for Mayor Duterte’s stance in various international issues.

In an interview with the media, Mayor Duterte was quoted as saying “The American embassy would like to talk to me. I want to make this public because I feel lukewarm toward the United States,” Duterte told residents of Rizal province during a campaign sortie.

Mayor Duterte, the most popular candidate on social media paid a courtesy call on local officials on Monday led by Antipolo City Mayor Jun Ynares and 13 other mayors of the Province of Rizal.

When the Davao City Mayor was pressed to give further details with his US Embassy meeting, the mayor told the reporters “I told them I would look for [a better schedule] this month,” Duterte said and added further “They said they were not in a hurry,” said the mayor.

Mayor Duterte also noted that he sees nothing wrong with the invitation of the US Embassy and stated that maybe the other presidential candidates were also invited by the US Embassy.
