One of the world’s most famous basketball star, LeBron James has signed a lucrative lifetime deal with US sporting goods giant Nike as confirmed on Monday by the company. The deal was described by Nike as the largest single athlete deal in the history of the popular brand.
The world leader in sports apparel and shoes, Nike confirmed the agreement with former NBA MVP LeBron James, which is believed to the first lifetime deal in the company’s 44-year history.
Nike released the following short statement: We can confirm that we have agreed to a lifetime relationship with LeBron that provides significant value to our business, brand and shareholders,” Nike said.
“We have already built a strong LeBron business over the past 12 years, and we see the potential for this to continue to grow throughout his playing career and beyond.”
Although there is no announced figures in the most lucrative deals in the history of Nike, sources familiar with the terms told ESPN that the deal with LeBron James easily eclipsed the $300 million 10-year-old deal when Nike sined with Oklahoma City Thunder Kevin Durant.
Nike previously signed LeBron James to a lucrative seven-year $90 million deal in 2003, has made 13 versions of LeBron’s signature shoes. According to Forbes estimates, James is considered as the sixth highest earning athelete in the world raking in annual earnings of $64.8 million and the Cavalier’s star’s net worth is estimated at around $300 million.
