Testimony for Duterte: US Expat in Davao City Defends Mayor Duterte

Supporters of Davao City mayor Rodrigo Duterte posted some positive news on social media as they shared various testimonies about the achievement of Mayor Duterte and why is it that they will be supporting the Mayor who will be running for President despite the controversies face by the Mayor.

Rigt after an ABS-CBN employee shared his experience about the kind of leader Mayor Duterte in Davao City, numerous residents have also shared their experience with the mayor and they way they enjoy the life in Davao City.

One of the most interesting story that is now viral on various social media sites is the story of an American expat who is now living with his wife in Davao City as he revealed how lucky he was to decided to stay for good in the city governed by Mayor Duterte.

AN OPEN LETTER FROM AN EXPAT LIVING IN DAVAO WITH HIS FILIPINO WIFE

“I submit my article to show my admiration about the (Duterte) Mayor. Before living in Davao City, I spent 2 years living in Eastwood, Quezon City. I won’t give any specifics for some considerations, but it was a filthy condominium unit. My wife and I kept on arguing when we were there because she wanted to go home to Davao City.

TAXI DRIVERS IN METRO MANILA SEE EXPATS AS WALKING ATM MACHINES

When we were in Metro Manila, I was robbed seven times! Everywhere I went, I need to bring wife with me due to some magical reasons when I’m alone all the prices of goods I’m trying to buy went doubled. All taxi cabs asks extra penny on top of their metered stuff. For Christ’s sake some even asked me to pay them in dollars! There’s this one time I rode a cab from Pasay City to my place. That’s around 200 pesos, but the driver asked me for a freakin’ 200 dollars! I mean, c’mon man, I’m not that stupid.

ROBBED SEVEN TIMES IN SAN JUAN

Did I say I was robbed seven times? Yes folks. One happened in a place called San Juan. I guess it’s a city. We went to some police station and asked for help, but those police officers asked for meals instead. They even got this malicious stare on my wife. Every time I switch on my TV, I watched the horror stories of crime and stuff like that happening in Metro Manila, less alone my own experience. And well, don’t get me started with the road. We have traffic jams back in DC but not like those in Manila. Clearly the metro is far way off than what they are telling in some tourism websites.

CAVE IN TO HIS WIFE’S PRODDING TO MOVE BACK TO HER HOMETOWN

To cut my story short, wife finally convinced me to go to her place in Davao City. I honestly admit calling mom and my sister, whatever happens to me or what’s left of me, it should be buried next to dad’s.

HEARD A LOT OF BAD STUFFS ABOUT MINDANAO IN THE US

I came from Washington DC, so It frequents my ear hearing about how dangerous Mindanao is. God, I was so wrong.

But it swayed far from happening. When we arrived, a police officer even helped us load our stuff in the cab. Wife and her family welcomed me with seafoods and letchon manuk, and pastries. Boy, the greatest food I ever tasted my entire life. The house is farely fine, but it doesn’t bother me a bit.

HONEST TAXI DRIVERS

People are very friendly, and they treat me like anybody else. No Caucasian gold BS mentality like those in Manila. And here is another great story; Every time I rode a cab, the driver never failed to give me change even to the last dime. At the back of my mind, I told myself, hey those cab drivers back in Manila were plain thugs. There is some jam here and there, but nothing like the hell I went through from our previous place. I even left a phone from an island resort, and they package-mailed it right on my doorstep! Talking about serious honesty.

CASUALLY CHAT WITH MAYOR

The mayor here is a very nice man. I personally met him in a Town Square and commended him for the great city. Here’s the thing – I’m awkwardly fitted just wearing flip-flop, a white shirt and a cargo-short approaching him. He said something to an officer then stared smiling at me. He said “Were you robbed? Do you need a fare home?” I grin and said my piece about the city and it’s people. He just said in a low-toned voice, “It’s my home too, and these are my people. I’ll protect and care for them as long as I can.” and he added something in a local dialect, but I roughly understand its meaning like – “Hey, thanks, and you take care of yourself and enjoy your stay. Don’t smoke in public places, okay.” I just smiled and said, sure sir, I’m staying here for good. Then I walked away. I hope he still remember me.

DON’T MIND ABOUT THE CURSING AS LONG AS HE IS SAFE IN DAVAO CITY

With all this cussing and cursing and yapping about his methods and the so-called “profanity” every time he speaks doesn’t even bother me a bit. If you keep on bringing that up, then don’t vote the guy. All I can say is, those who are against him, those people don’t deserve that great man. Hell, I don’t even understand what he’s saying. All I care about is his duty to his people and the change he brought to Davao City. For him being a womanizer, open your minds, does it affect the way he manages things? I don’t think so. I’m hoping those that were born here in this country just pretend to be like me – couldn’t understand his cursing, but realize and feel his service. I can’t vote, but I’m trying to do my part to share how I feel living in a peaceful, serene and beautiful city. I can’t write in Filipino so please bare with my story. You can share this if you like.
