Philippine lawmakers were alarmed with the arrests of some Overseas Filipino Worker for allegedly carrying a bullet inside their bag at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). Four senators already expressed their dismay with the recent arrests at NAIA not only involving OFW’s but also foreigners.
Sens. Cynthia Villar, Nancy Binay, Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., and Ralph Recto express their concern over the recent incident of the controversial “tanim-bala” or bullet planting scheme at the airport, one of the victim was the 56-year-old Gloria Ortinez.
According to Sen. Villar the OFW victim does not seem to be the guilty party as she has been a ward to children for a long time, having worked in Hong Kong for 13 years.
Sen. Binay, meanwhile, said authorities should immediately address cases that affect overseas workers, while Sen. Marcos stated that the OFW may not only lose her job in Hong Kong, but may have to go through taxing legal procedures.
Sen. Recto on his part also urged authorities to go after the “real” criminals. Sen. Marcos also found that the incident involving the “tanim-bala” modus operandi at NAIA is indeed disturbing as there have been cases noted before and yet there are no apparent actions taken to prevent the incident from reoccurring.
