This year’s Fiba-Asia men’s basketball championships is already making every participating prepare as each wants to pass previous record and rank.
A Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas top official has earlier said Gilas Pilipinas’ preparation for this year’s basketball championships is “right on schedule.”
Though powerhouse countries like China and Iran which last year Philippines’ top contenders are already in deep training, SBP deputy director for international affairs Butch Antonio said Gilas’ preparation was really scheduled to start in August.
“That’s how it was scheduled, so if they (Chinese and Iranian) practice earlier, then good for them, pero tayo, we’re still on schedule as planned and laid out,” he said.
Antonio explained that SPB’s are busy preparing for the hosting of the Fiba 3X3 World Tour Manila Masters this weekend and for the 2019 Fiba World Cup bid presentation next week.
He also noted that they will be consulting with PBA commissioner Chito Salud regarding the formal announcement of the Gilas pool.
The official said they are looking forward to the arrival of naturalized center Andray Blatche.
