Tristan Ong: Son of Kentex Owner One of the 72 Fatalities in Factory Fire

The 24-year-old Tristan Ong, son of an owner of the footwear company Kentext, maker of Havana Sandals, was among the 72 fatalities in the factory fire on Wednesday. The victim who was one of the company’s part-owner, was among the first three remains to be retrieved along with factory secretaries Leah Ballesteros and Josie Tee.

According to Atty. Renato Paraiso, Kentex Manufacturing Corp. lawyer, the company executives have been cooperating with the police investigation since the owners were among the victims of the deadly tragedy.

The company will also conduct its own investigation into the incident. Reports from the Bureau of Fire Protection noted that the fire struck the first level of the factory past noon Wednesday at the welding operations area of the factory, the fire was put out at around 7:00 PM.

The victims of the fire that struck the factory in Valenzuela were trapped inside the building as they attempted to escape through the second floor of the building due to suffocation.
