The President of the Republic of the Philippines, Pres. Benigno Aquino III revealed on Wednesday that the national government sought to increase the bonuses of government-owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs) employees after their dividends reached a record-breaking P131 billion.
The national government praised the performance of the state firms and vowed to improve the benefits of their officials and employees. Pres. Aquino ordered Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima and Budget Secretary Florencio Abad to review the bonuses of those working in GOCCs.
During the year 2015, the GOCCs’ dividends and remittances amounted to P36.36 billion, higher than the P32.31 billion in 2013.
According to Pres. Aquino, from 2010 to 2015 during his administration the revenues remitted by the GOCCs reached P131.28 billion, which is much higher than that P81.48 billion remitted by GOCCs to the national government from 2001 to 2009.
The chief executive also rexpressed confidence that during his six-year term, the GOCCs can double the dividends collected by the previous administrations.
