Amid the claims of the former spokesman that the arrest warrant is allegedly a form of political persecution, DOJ previously stressed that the arrest of Harry Roque is “prosecution, not persecution”. Prior to his appearance in The Hague when former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s custody was transferred to the International Criminal Court (ICC), Roque was in hiding for around six months.

The House of Representatives previously issued an arrest order against Roque for contempt but he flee out of the country. Following his first public appearance after several months, he claimed that he will be part of the ICC legal team of Duterte.

Roque even promised to the Filipino people that he will bring home Duterte to the Philippines amid the calls for the former President’s return to the country. Malacañang reacted to it saying that he should defend himself first before other people.

Contrary to the claim of Harry Roque that he will be part of the ICC legal team of Duterte, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte said they want the lawyers of her father to really be focusing on the case. According to her, the former presidential spokesman should focus on his asylum bid.

Roque filed an application for asylum in The Netherlands. According to him, while the process is ongoing, he allegedly cannot be deployed and the process may take up to a year and a half.

Recently, Department of Justice chief Boying Remulla claimed he got a report that the asylum bid of Harry Roque in The Netherlands was denied by the Dutch government. He also said that the former spokesman is in Germany as per the report he got. Roque immediately reacted to it.

“I am not surprised that the Marcos Jr. administration, through the Department of Justice, has become the purveyor of fake news. Strike two na ang DOJ Secretary,” Roque said based on a post on his social media account.

Boying Remulla

The former president Spox cited Remulla’s previous claim that he has allegedly three (3) passports and his recent claim that his asylum bid in The Netherlands was denied by the Dutch government. He also claimed that his trip to Germany was a pre-planned activity as he was invited by the Filipino community in the country to administer the oathtaking of the Hakbang Maisug Germany members.

“Ngayon, denied asylum. Ano ito? Nakalap ang impormasyon sa usapang marites,” he said.

Harry Roque said he is now back in The Hague. According to him, the President does not need billions of confidential and intelligence funds to locate him as all is in his Facebook account.

Previously, the DOJ confirmed that they will seek the cancellation of the former spokesman’s passport. According to Harry Roque, the initiative to cancel his passport is allegedly the Marcos admin’s way to silence him as a Duterte ally.
