Jerry Belibestre Wins Bronze in Asian Youth & Qualifies for World Youth Championship

Bacolod-based athlete Jerry Belibestre wins the first medal for the Philippine Team in the Asian Youth Championships as he won the Bronze medal in the Long Jump competition of the Asian Youth Championships held in Doha, Qatar. The medal achievement of Jerry Belibestre put the Philippine team in the medal tally board and secured a ticket for Jerry Belibestre’s inclusion as the seventh athlete to qualify for the World Youth Championship.

During the Long Jump competition of the Asian Youth Championship, Jerry Belibestre scored his best performance of 7.26 meters, which is slightly lower to the gold medalist Youngbin Kim from Korea who scored with 7.49 while the silver medal was awarded to Yugo Sakai of Japan with 7.31 meters.

Jerry Belibestre was also fresh off from his 7.15 win at the 2015 Palarong Pambansa held in Tagum, together with his coach Miguel Arca, they had to leave early to catch a flight to Doha, Qatar via Manila. The 7.26m performance of Jerry Belibestre was over the “7.25m” standard for the world youth championship as he qualify to the global sporting event.

The 17-year-old Jerry Belibestre is also the lone gold medalist from the Philippines during the 10th Southeast Asia Youth Athletic Championships which was held in Kuala, Lumpur Malaysia last April 2015.

During the competition, the Bacolod-based athlete, made a leap of 6.93 meters to defeat Malaysian Andre Anuar (6.73) and Thai Wasan Kammak (6.68) for the gold medal, the only first-place finish of the Philippine Team in the tournament.
