Bagyong Amang Made Landfall Over Dolores, Eastern Samar (Storm Signals)

Bagyong Amang, the first tropical storm to hit the country made a landfall over Dolores, Eastern Samar at around 3:00 PM today according to PAGASA’s latest weather bulletin issued at around 5:00 PM, just a few hours after Pope Francis held a mass for survivors of super typhoon Yolanda that devastated most parts of Tacloban City.

PAGASA noted that the tropical cyclone Amang (international name Mekkhala) is packing maximum sustained winds of 100 kilometer per hour near the center and gusts of up to 130 kph. At around 4:00 PM, the center of Bagyong Amang was seen 60 km north-northeast of Borongan, Eastern Samar and is moving northwest at 19 kph.

The country’s weather bureau also updated the public storm warning signals issued in different parts of Visayas and the Bicol Region. Signal No. 2 has been raised over the following areas: LUZON: Catanduanes, Albay, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, southern Quezon including Polillo Island, Sorsogon, Masbate, Burias Island including Ticao Island. VISAYAS: Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar and Biliran.

Public storm warning signal number 1, meanwhile, is hoisted over the following areas: LUZON: Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, Batangas, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Aurora, Quirino, Isabela, rest of Quezon, Marinduque, Oriental Mindoro, and Romblon. VISAYAS: Leyte, Southern Leyte, extreme northern Cebu including Bantayan Island and Camotes Island.

According to PAGASA’s forecast, Bagyong Amang is expected to be at 115 km east of Infanta, Quezon on Sunday afternoon and 155 km east-northeast of Aparri, Cagayan by Monday afternoon.
