Manila Declared Suspension of Classes & Work on January 15-19, 2015 for Pope’s Visit

The world’s revered religious leader, Pope Francis, will visit the Philippines this coming January 2015, and the City of the Manila is where most the Pope’s activities will happen, so the Local Government Unit of Manila, headed by Mayor Joseph Estrada already declared the suspension of classes and government work in the city for the anticipated visit of Pope Francis.

The City of Manila declared the suspension of classes and work in the city from January 15 to 19, 2015, through Executive Order 75 signed by Mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada.

The EO 75 signed by the former President, and now mayor of Manila, Mayor Joseph Estrada, the executive order was intended “to ensure public order and convenience” during the first-ever visit of Pope Francis to the Philippines.

Although suspension of work in government offices was recommended, Mayor Estrada clarified that employees working for maintenance of peace and order, disaster risk management, traffic management, and health and sanitation in the city are required to report on the above-mentioned dates.

Private companies, on the other hand, their suspension of work is said to be under the discretion of the employers. Some of the historical sites that will be visited by Pope Francis are the Malacañang Palace, Manila Cathedral, Rizal Park and University of Santo Tomas.
