Bagyong Luis Storm Signals & Hourly Updates (September 14, 2014)

The country’s weather bureau, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) released the latest storm signals in areas affected by Bagyong Luis. According to PAGASA, there are seven areas in Luzon are under Storm Signal No. 3 as Typhoon Luis (international name Kalmaegi) move towards the Cagayan-Isabela areas.

According to PAGASA forecaster Fernando Cada during a media briefing, Bagyong Luis was enhancing the southwest monsoon, which will bring moderate to occasionally heavy rain and thunderstorms over Bicol Region, Quezon Province, and the rest of Central Luzon.

Based upon the latest weather bulletin released by PAGASA at around 4:00 AM, the Tropical Storm Luis was at 266 km north-northeast of Virac, Catanduanes or 347 km east-southeast of Casiguran, Aurora. The weather disturbance packed a maximum sustained winds of 120 kph near the center, which can gust up to 150 kph.

Signal NO. 3 = winds of 100 km/h (62 mph) to 185 km/h (115 mph) are expected within the next 18 hours.

Signal NO. 2 = winds of 60 km/h (37 mph) to 100 km/h (62 mph) are expected within the next 24 hours.

Signal NO. 1 = winds of 30 km/h (19 mph) to 60 km/h (37 mph) are expected within the next 36 hours.

PAGASA also reminded the residents in low-lying and mountainous areas under Storm Signals to be alert against possible flash floods and landslides. Residents living in coastal areas under Storm Signals No. 2 and No. 3 are also warned of storm surges of up to two meters.

All fishermen and smaller sea craft were advised not to venture in to the seaboards of Visayas, and the Eastern Seaboards of Southern Luzon and Mindanao.
