The Roman Catholic church leaders of the Philippines announced on Thursday, July 29, 2014, that Pope Francis will visit the Philippines on January 15 to 19, 2015. The confirmation of Pope Francis visit to the country in 2015 was announced during a press conference at Arzobispado de Manila, by Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle.
According to the announcement, Cardinal Tagle was quoted as saying “his holiness Pope Francis will make his apostolic visit to Sri Lanka on January 12 to 15 and to the Philippines on January 15 to 19, 2015.” Cardinal Tagle stated.
Meanwhile Archbishop Giuseppe Pinto, the current papal nuncio to the Philippines, he described the visit of Pope Francis as a “spiritual typhoon.” The Vatican on their part will announce the details of the visit before the end of the year.
Aside from the Philippine head of the Roman Catholics, the national government already appointed Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr., as the lead point person in helping the papal visit committee according to the announcement released by Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. as ordered by President Aquino.
Pope Francis’ visit to the Philippines also coincides with the 20th anniversary of World Youth Day Philippines, the world gathering that took place in Manila last January 10-15, 1995.
