Typhoon Florita (Neoguri) to Enter Philippine Area of Responsibility on Sunday

The Philippine Athmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced on Saturday, July 5, 2014 that the Tropical storm Neoguri has intensified into a typhoon over the PAcific Ocean and is likely to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Sunday, July 6, 2014.

PAGASA already released an advisory about the tropical storm whose international code name is Neoguri and upon its entry to the Philippines it will be named as Florita, the sixth typhoon to hit the country.

Although the “strong typhoon” is not expected to make a landfall, it is now estimated at 1,410 kilometers off Virac, Catanduanes as of 4:00 AM, according to the country’s weather bureau, PAGASA.

Update: PAGASA noted on their 10:00 AM update that Typhoone Neoguri is outside PAR and estimated at 1,310 km east northeas of Virac, Catanduanes with a maximum sustained winds of 130 kph and gustiness of up to 160 kph.

Meanwhile in a report posted by one of the world’s most popular weather authority, Accuweather, meteorologist Eric Leister noted that the tropical storm, Neoguri will continue to strengthen as it transitions into a “strong typhoon” and makes its way over the open Western Pacific areas.

Typhoon Neoguri is expected to hit Japan while Taiwan should remain on alert with the strong weather disturbance. The rapid strengthening of the typhoon will be on Sunday into early next week.
