Cagayan de Oro to Implement Curfew on Minors Starting June 1

The capital city of Misamis Oriental Cagayan de Oro is set to implement the curfew for minors with ages 15 and below starting June 1, 2014. The curfew will start from 10:00 pm and will end at 5:00 am.

“Starting June 1, 2014, all minors in Cagayan de Oro City aged below 15 years old should not be seen roaming, wandering around food hubs, clubs, lounges, liquor stores, and the like, after 10 p.m. and before 5 a.m. the following day,” said on a post in CDOdev.com.

The curfew will be imposed to lessen minor-related incidents including trafficking and violence.

Based upon the report of Sunstar, Executive Director of CDO peace and security council (CPDSP) Teddy Sabu-aga said that the curfew will also ensure the safety of students and will remind the parents of their responsibility to their child.

“This is to ensure safety among school children in CDO as cl(–foul word(s) removed–) are set to begin this June. Second, this is to remind the parents their responsibility to their children after cl(–foul word(s) removed–) and know their activities. Third, this is also for the city to achieve the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) child-friendly initiatives,” he said.

However, there are exemptions especially on holidays including, Christmas, New year, All Saints Day, All Souls Day, Holy Thursday to Easter Sunday. Special occasions including city fiesta, charter day and special gatherings will also be exempted.

Violators of the ordinance will be fined between P500 to P1, 000 and will depend on the offense or be jailed from 10 days to 4 months depending also on the court rulings.
