Tonight’s semi-finals game of the Philippine Azkals will be their fourth semi-finals appearance in the Regional Association Football tournament. The last time the Azkals made it to the semis was during the AFF Suzuki Cup 2012. The Azkals also made it to the semi-finals of the 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup followed by the semi-finals appearance of the 2012 AFC Challenge Cup.
The Philippine Azkals topped the Group B of the AFC Challenge Cup group stage after they defeated Laos and Turkmenistan and made a goalless draw against Afghanistan. The team will face Maldives which ranked second in Group A, while Palestine will face Afghanistan in the first game of the AFC Challenge Cup semi-finals.
The Azkals already studied well their opponent particularly the most popular player in the Maldives soccer team, Ali Ashfaq, who already lead the tournament with a total of three goals under his name. The Philippines Patrick Reichelt is also considered as a dangerous offensive player after scoring two goals for the Philippines.
