This is the statement of Gilas Pilipinas head coach Chot Reyes when he talked about his meeting with the PBA board on January 30, where he is being invited to discuss the preparation of the national team for the coming World Cup.
Asked to present a training program, Reyes would like to know first the length of time that will be given to the national team to prepare for the big tournament in Spain.
“They’re asking me to present a training program. Ang sa akin kasi, I have to know first how much time is given to us before I could present a training program,” said the Reyes, who steered the national team to a silver medal finish in the last Fiba Asia championship.
The multi-titled coach also added that he could consider changing the Gilas line up if the league would give them three months and not just a month to get ready for the competition in Spain, a thing that he requested.
“If they’ll just give us one month, eh di na tayo puwede magpalit. But if they give us three months, then maybe, we can get a pool together and see who can make it,” he said. (Satement from Spin.ph)
The time is an issue for the country’s World championship bid this year as the August-september competition will again conflict the PBA calendar that leaves the mother ball clubs of the Gilas players’ to take them away from the demanding practice sessions of the National team.
Last year, the PBA gave way to the country’s preparation and hosting of the Fiba Asia in August by moving its third conference in November, two months later than the actual schedule.
