PAGASA issued the storm warning signals as the Low Pressure Area (LPA) has intensified and was named as Tropical Depression Agaton. At around 10:00 AM of January 17, 2014, Bagyong Agaton was located at 130 km. Northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

The Tropical Depression Agaton has a maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center. The LPA that develops into a typhoon is forecast to move Southwest at 05 kph.

The Tropical Depression Agaton forecast to be 40 kilometers East of Hinatuan on Saturday morning, January 18, 2014. The PAGASA Public Storm Warning Signal was raised over the following areas:
Storm Signal No. 1 = Wind Speed of 30-60 kph
- Dinagat
- Surigao del Sur
- Surigao del Norte including Siargao
- Agusan del Sur
- Agusan del Norte
- Davao Oriental
- Compostela Valley
