Ginebra, Global Port in Pivotal Game, Subplot: Caguioa, Romeo II

League-leading Barangay Ginebra San Miguel seeks to wrest the top spot and the first of the two twice-to-beat incentives when it clashes with dangerous Global Port in the curtain-raiser of the the PLDT MyDSL Philippine cup doubleheader today at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The kings only need a win to barge in the playoffs, holding the top spot and a twice-to-beat advantage while the Batang Pier on the other hand look to secure a quarterfinals berth as they try to trip the crowd-favorite team in their 5:45 pm encounter.

In the second game, San Mig (6-7), which is on a three-game winning streak, takes on the struggling Talk n’ Text to move to .500 in the standings after the elimination round.

Unlike with their first meeting though, which built by the hype of intense shootout of Mark Caguioa and rookie Terrence Romeo, the rematch of the prolific guards later would be a vital one for their respective teams more than those of their smugness playing against each other.

“Pipilitin kong makatulong sa team namin, ibibigay ko ang best ko,” Romeo said on an interview to Spin.ph.

“No pressure lang, basta gagawin ko lang ang best ko.” He added.

However, the reigning UAAP MVP still vowed to play well against, Caguioa, who out-dueled him last time out, submitting his 27 markers to his idol’s 29-point explosion.

The Global Port is currently in a three-way logjam in fifth to eight place with the Meralco and Barako Bull with identical 5-8 card while Ginebra won seven of its last eight games for a 10-2 record.
