Arnold Clavio Fined by MTRCB For Disrespectful Interview

Veteran TV anchor Arnold Clavio and GMA’s morning show “Unang Hirit” was meted a fine of P20,000 for Clavio’s “indecorous language and behavior” and ordered to undergo “a period of close collaboration of one month” with the MTRCB.

Aside from the fine, Arnold Clavio and “Unang Hirit” has received a “grave and serious admonition” from the Movie and Television Review and Cl(–foul word(s) removed–)ification Board for disrepectful phone patch interview conducted last month by Arnold Clavio with Janet Napoles lawyer, Atty. Alfredo Villamor.

The MTRCB ad hoc committee also required GMA Network executives and “the executive producer, director, writer, public affairs hosts, and especially Mr. Arnold Clavio of ‘Unang Hirit” to undergo a mandatory seminar to be conducted by MTRCB chair Eugenio “Toto” Villareal, a law professor of law and media ethics, on December 10 and 11 at the MTRCB office.

According to a news report from Interaksyon.com, the seminar will be about “media and the legal profession in the context of both audience sensitivity and the administration of justice.”

The MTRCB also acknowledged that GMA Network had submitted “a two-page letter containing its proposed remedial and restitutive measures, as well as the draft public statement for “Unang Hirt.”

The controversial statement of Arnold Clavio during the interview with Atty. Villamor got the attentions of netizens who were outraged with his behavior. Two days after the interview, Arnold Clavio issued a brief statement in which he acknowledge that he had gone overboard and asked for understanding but never issued an apology.
