DOE Distributes 152 Generator Sets to Typhoon-Hit Areas

The Department of Energy (DOE) will be distributing a total of 152 generator sets to typhoon-hit areas in the Visayas Region. The 60 gensets were distributed to Leyte; 45 t0 Samar Provinces; 30 to Capiz; ten (10) to Iloilo; five (5) to Coron, Palawan; eight (8) to Bantayan Island; four (4) to Camotes island and the rest to vital installations in Tacloban City.

The generator sets distributed by the national government through the Department of Energy (DOE) would provide an immediate source of electricity in the affected provinces.

The island of Bantayan, one of the worst-affected areas in the Visayas will receive eight (8) generator sets while the island of Camotes in the eastern portion of Cebu province will get four generator sets.

Aside from the above-mentioned places that will benefit from the generator sets from the DOE, the Department of Trade and Industry office in Tacloban City, Leyte will also receive one generator set.

The Department of Health were also given generator sets earlier for its uninterrupted power for its medical operations and facilities amid the devastated areas hit by the world’s most destructive typhoon.

The generator sets from the DOE has a capacity of 2 to 3 kilovolts ampere (kva), enough to power government centers and other important establishments according to the official statement made by the DOE.

The gensets will be delivered by the DOE and the Armed Forces of the Philippines from Manila to affected areas using one of the Philippine Air Force’ C-130 cargo planes.
