The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the 16 cities of the National Capital Region have already agreed to adopt areas in the Visayas devastated by super typhoon “Yolanda” last week.
According to MMDA Metro Manila Mayors can help restore law and order in Visayas affected by the typhoon through their adopt-a-LGU (Local Government Unit) scheme.
MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino was quoted as saying, “What these badly damaged LGUs need is governance. It may be because even local officials were affected by the calamity, or they were just simply overwhelmed by the magnitude of the disaster. It is time that we in Metro Manila come in and help them run their localities,” Tolentino said.
The scheme was already approved and agreed upon by the MMDA and Metro Manila Mayors last week, under the scheme, each Metro Manila LGU would adopt at least two or more worst-hit localities and help them in the post-recovery operations.
