International actor and award-winning Filipino artist John Arcilla shared his happiness of his international indie film movie, “Metro Manila,” which was chosen as United Kingdom’s official entry to the 86th Oscars Film Award for Best Foreign Language. The actor relate his experience during the Sundance Film Festival during an interview with Umagang Kay Ganda.

John Arcilla visited the set of UKG on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 for an exclusive interview as part of his promotion of the indie film “Metro Manila,” produced and directed by British director Sean Ellis.
During his interview with UKG, John Arcilla stated that he never lost hope that the movie, “Metro Manila,” will win the Audience Award for Best World Dramatic film at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival held at Park City, Utah, USA.
The former actor of Bourne Legacy, John Arcilla narrates that during Metro Manila’s participation at Sundance, the director Sean Ellis and lead actor Jake Macapagal decided to take just three days and then they will go home. John Arcilla decided to stay until the awards night, when he was asked why he wanted to stay he replied that he will get the trophy for them.
According to John for the director and the lead actor they don’t want to expect something but their mind change when they found out that their entry “Metro Manila,” is one of the most watched film in the festival. The reception among the audience was good, the cinemas were always full featuring different nationalities satisfied with the movie.
The casts of Metro Manila were really surprised with the unexpected turn-outs of the movie, almost all who have seen the movie could relate to the story. John Arcilla was overwhelmed together with the rest of the casts and crew who participated at Sundance. The Filipino actor even revealed that only 1% of those who watched the movies were Filipinos, the rest were foreigners.
The movie, “Metro Manila,” tells the story of Oscar Ramirez played by Jake Macapagal and his family who decide to move from the poverty-stricken rice terraces of Banaue and try their luck in Metro Manila. He then land a dangerous job of driving an armored truck and finds himself involved in a long-planned heist.
