Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Elections 2013 Officially Postponed

The President of the Republic of the Philippines, Pres. Aquino signed a bill postponing the October 28 Sangguniang Kabatan (SK) elections in order to pave the way for reforms.

SK Elections postponed

The national government through Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said that the SK Elections will now be held between October 28, 2014 and February 23, 2015. The SK Elections was supposed to be held together with the countrywide Barangay Elections scheduled on October 28.

The current or incumbent SK officials will not be allowed to keep their posts on holdover capacities. Some of the issues or reasons being cited by the government is the lack of time to prepare to the SK pool.

The Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda on earlier report stated that the President sees the need to have the SK system studied further amid calls for reform.
