The University of Sto. Tomas Growling Tigers escapes a 73-72 victory during the Game 1 of the UAAP Men’s Basketball Championship against the De La Salle Green Archers at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday, October 2, 2013.
The Green Archers scored the first two points of the game courtesy of Vosotros but the Taft-based squad struggled during the entire first half of Game 1 scoring only with just 31 points compared to UST’s 38 at the end of the second quarter.
The UST struggled to maintain their lead in the final quarter with La Salle gaining momentum and the lead but UST managed to secure their first win in the Best-of-Three championship series against La Salle.
With the victory of UST Growling Tigers they ended the Green Archers’ season-best nine-game winning streak and moved to within a victory of their first UAAP title since 2006.
The Game 2 of the UAAP Finals will be held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum this coming Saturday, October 5, 2013.
