Qatar Defeated Chinese Taipei 71-68 (Highlights Video)

Good news for the Philippines, Qatar was able to defeat Chinese Taipei in one of the most thrilling game in FIBA Asia with a three-point victory over the formerly undefeated Chinese Taipei with the score at 71-68.

With Qatar’s victory over Chinese Taipei, both teams finished tied at first place in Group E with a 4-1 win-loss record. The Philippines can forge a three-way tie for the top seed with a win in the evening against Hong Kong.

If the Philippines could win against Hong kong, the team will end up with the No. 1 spot in its group by virtue of better point differential. Qatar will end up second and Chinese Taipei will finish third.

Qatar and Chinese Taipei went toe-to-toe for most of the game and Qatar went on a slim one-point lead at the end third quarter at 49-48. The Qataris made a 13-2 run but the Chinese Taipei also made a 14-2 run and tied the match with just a minute remaining.

Daoud Mosa Daoud of Qatar managed to stop the Chinese Taipei attack and scored a strong layup with 43 seconds left, giving Qatar a 70-68 edge. After forcing Tien Lei to miss a difficult fadeaway at the other end, Jarvis Hayes split his free throws to push the lead to three points.

Qatar mainstay Y(–foul word(s) removed–)een Musa finished with 20 points and 19 rebounds. Chinese Taipei naturalized star Quincy Davis led his team with 22 points and 8 rebounds.
