The Global FC and the Loyola Meralco Sparks will showcase their skills in the upcoming quarterfinals tournament of the RHB Singapore Cup for a chance to capture the semi-finals and ultimately the finals of the tournament.
On July 24th and 27th, Global FC will collide with Brunei DPMM in a two-legged aggregate-goals series while the Loyola Meralco Sparks will face Singaporean side Tanjong Pagar United for the quarterfinals on July 25 and 28. The Global FC match will be held at the Jalan Besar Stadium while the Meralco Sparks game will be held at the Queenstown Stadium.
Global FC will use the service of Spanish striker Rufo Sanchez, who has been loaned to Global from Stallion, he was the UFL’s top striker with 18 goals in as many games. Global will try to bounce back from a disappointing runner-up finish in the 2013 UFL League.
The former UFL champion also signs Amani Aguinaldo, the former FEU booters, the 18-year-old from Davao also plays centerback for the Philippine Azkals U23 national team. Global will also field, Emil Muncada, a Pinoy who grew up in Spain, and a standout for Pasargad, he played fourth-tier Football in Spain.
Global have been successful on their first appearance with the RHB Singapore Cup after they disposed the Warriors of Singapore via a 2-nil scoreline courtesy of Misagh Bahadoran and Jordan Robertson’s strikes. Robertson, a former Sheffield United player, is no longer listed in Global’s roster in the semis.
With regards to Global’s opponent, the Brunei DPMM, the team features Brazilian Rodrigo Tosi and Portuguese Joao Moreira who played as a midfielder and an attacker respectively. The football club can boasts also of their Brazilian defender Tales dos Santos but his status in Wednesday is uncertain.
Meanwhile the Loyola Meralco Sparks is confident that they can once again proceed to the final four of the tournament as they did last year. They were able to defeat the Harimau Muda B, Malaysia’s U19 side, in the first round of the RHB Singapore Cup courtesy of Jang Jo Won and 2 strikes from Phil Younghusband.
The Sparks will not field their regular keeper, Ref Cuaresma, who hurt his left knee in the UFL All Stars U23 matchup. He is not in the line-up anymore and was replaced by Baba Sampana, a 22 year old keeper from Ghana who will make his debut in Singapore.
