Calvin Abueva on Track to Become 2nd PBA Rookie MVP

Sensational Alaska super rookie Calvin Abueva could possibly achieved one of the most coveted title in the PBA, the second to become a Rookie of the Year and at the same time PBA MVP.

Former PBA stalwart, Benjie Paras was the only player who have made such achievement during the 1989 season of the PBA. Right now Calvin Abueva is on its way to break the record of Paras.

The 25-year-old Abueva is the season’s second draft pick behind Petron Blaze’s Junmar Fajardo. He is on track to making it to the official MVP candidates list for his performance in the past two conferences.

The other two players who are already sure of making it the the official MVP candidates were Talk ‘N Text Jayson Castro and Ginebra’s LA Tenorio because of their Best Player of the Conference title.

Aside from Calvin Abueva, Arwind Santos is also in contention for the MVP race because of his strength in terms of numbers during the past two conferences. In the unofficial tally through the semifinals of the first two conferences, Abueva and Santos were running first and second with averages of 29.716 and 28.95 statistical points, respectively.

The former San Sebastian energetic forward, Abueva, must finish ahead of Jayson Castro and LA Tenorio in the statistical race in the Governor’s Cup for him to be included in the official MVP contender.
