The Brunei National Football Team will not participate in the upcoming AFC Challenge Cup to be hosted by the Philippines at the Rizal Memorial Stadium according to a news report posted by the Brunei Times.
According to the report citing the Ministy of Culture, Youth and Sports in Brunei yesterday, they stated that the Sultanate will not be at the four-team tournament to be held in Manila.
The Brunei Ministy of Culture, Youth and Sports Secretary Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Hamid Hj Mohd Jaafar, was quoted as saying that “Due to unavoidable circumstances, Brunei Darussalam is unable to participate in the upcoming AFC Challenge Cup qualifiers scheduled to be held in the Philippines from March 22-26,” the secretary stated.
The Brunei National Football Team was supposed to be meeting the Philippine Azkals on their first match on Friday, March 22, 2013. They will also scheduled to face Turkmenistan on Sunday, before ending the tournament with Cambodia on Tuesday.
The Philippine Football Federation and the AFC as a whole could not confirmed the withdrawal at the time of posting but we are doing our best to contact our peers in Philippine football who are working with the PFF.
