Smart Gilas Pilipinas Champions at Hong Kong Invitational

Smart Gilas Pilipinas dethroned and defeated the depending champion Souther California Fukienese (–foul word(s) removed–)ociation in the finals of the 19th Keung Sheung Cup Invitational Basketball Championship.

The game ended with the final score at 81-77 with a come-from-behind victory for the Filipinos mostly comprised of amateur Filipino cagers in the championship held at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Wanchai, Hong Kong.

The Gilas Pilipinas mentored by Coach Chot Reyes relied on their amateur standout Kevin Alas, who was also awarded with the MVP award, who was supported heavily by naturalized player Marcus Douthit and PBA veteran Gary David.

The eight-team basketball tournament was dominated by the Philippines sweeping the tournament with a total of 5-game winning streak. The Gilas Pilipinas rebounded from their failure during the Dubai Invitational where they placed 6th over-all.
