DILG Undersecretary Rico Puno Resigned from Office

The controversial Undersecretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government of the Philippines, USec Rico Puno have resigned from his post on Tuesday, September 11, 2012.

The resignation of Puno was confirmed with a two-page statement issued by himself and handed over to the current DILG Secretary Mar Roxas.

USec Puno was quoted as saying that “I wish to thank President Aquino for his trust and confidence in giving me the opportunity to serve our country and people,” he said.

The President of the Republic of the Philippines, President Benigno Aquino Aquino III have already accepted the second highest official of the DILG’s resignation.

According to the letter that was obtained by ABS-CBNnews.com, the letter was dated September 11 and Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa told Puno that “On behalf of his excellency…this is to inform you that your resignation is hereby accepted, effective immediately.” Sec. Ochoa stated.

Secretary Puno became controversial for the past few days after the death of DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo when he and his men came to Robredo’s condo unit in Quezon City and allegedly to secure some documents there.

The Under Secretary of the DILG has also been accused of various anomalies on his department especially the possible overpriced firearms deal during the Secretary Robredo’s term.
