Former DTI Secretary during the Estrada Administration in the year 2000, and current DOTC Secretary Mar Roxas was appointed by President Aquino on Friday, as the new chief of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
The 55-year-old husband of broadcaster Korina Sanchez is also one of the most prominent personality in the administration’s Liberal Party as it’s President. Sec. Mar Roxas will now take over the position vacated by former Secretary Jesse Robredo after his untimely demise.
President Aquino’s admitted that Roxas was on the primary list of choice to replace the late Jess Robredo. Roxa was an experienced economist after he was one of the most capable person to lead the most influential department in Aquino’s administration.
The President was even quoted as saying that “When Secretary Robredo was missing, we had to entertain the possibility [of a replacement]. I told Mar that he was first on my shortlist in case we had to replace Jesse,” the President said.
Due to the entry of Mar Roxas in the most strategic department of the government, the administration is now under constant attacked of politicking.
Meanwhile the post at the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) as it’s chief will be given to Cavite Representative Joseph Emilio Abaya, an engineer and lawyer by profession and the most able replacement of Mar Roxas.
Both Secretary Roxas and Rep. Abaya were holding important positions in the Liberal Party of the President. Mar Roxas is LP President while Abaya is the secretary-general of LP.
