A rare blue lobster was caught in Clarks Harbour, Nova Scotia in Canada was caught by lobster’s fisherman with the leadership of Bobby Stoddard together with his crew.
The lobster was estimated to be 1-in-3 million find, meaning only one out of every two million lobsters are blue. The findings was made by the University of Maine Lobster Institute website.
According to the description of the rare blue lobster “The coloration comes from a genetic defect that causes the lobster to produce an excessive amount of a particular protein that gives the lobster that unique coloration.”
The fisherman Stoddard catches more than 3,000 lobster on a day and has been on the job for 33 years. During an interview with CNN he was quoted saying that “This is the only one that I’ve ever seen,” he told CNN. “And my dad has been a lobsterman of about 55 years, and he caught one about 45 years ago, but hadn’t seen one since.”
Stoddard is unsure what to do with his rare find. He put the lobster up for auction online, but changed his mind and pulled the ad. The lobster is currently living in a tank at Stoddard’s place of work.
