The Philippine-based hactivists group Anonymous Philippines have retaliated against the bullying of China through cyber warfare. On the latest development regarding the stand-off between the Philippines and China which deals with the problems on the Scarborough Shoal, the issue have reached to cyberspace.
Last Friday morning, one of the Philippines most popular institution, the University of the Philippines was being hacked by an alleged Chinese hackers when they defaced the website of the University of the Philippines leaving a Chinese message regarding their ownership of the Scarborough Shoal, a land m(–foul word(s) removed–) which is under the 200 mile Exclusive Economic Zone of the Philippines but was claimed by China as part of their territory.
The group from the Philippines who called themselves as Anonymous Philippines have intruded not only one Chinese websites but a total of four websites have been infected. The hacktivist group left a message claiming the Scarborough Shoal and the rest of the Spratlys. The websites affected were totally defaced unlike the previous attacks on the UP that only part of the website was defaced by the hackers.
The Chinese websites that were affected served different functions in the People’s Republic of China. One of the website was the Chinese University Media Union (UMU) wherein the hackers defaced totally the appearance of the websites leaving behind a message which reads ““Scarborough Shoal is ours!” The website was not only defaced but a loud music was playing also as a background.
Other websites that were affected by the alleged Philippine hackers attacks were; China Youth Onlien; P. Loft Youth Hostel; Chinese government website and the UMU Website Chinese University Media Union website.
Whatever the outcome of this on-going stand-off between the Philippines and China either through the naval forces or through cyberspace, one thing for sure this issue could not be resolved unless the two parties will set-down for a diplomatic solutions.
