Known as the former chairman of Commission on Elections (COMELEC), Benjamin Abalos Sr. was reported that he was hospitalized after knowing the news which says that he will be one of those who will be charged with an electoral sabotage case along with the former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and some of the other public officers.

The news was confirmed by Jimmy Isidro, the Public Information Officer of Mandaluyong City although the name of the hospital where Abalos Sr. was rushed wasn’t mentioned.

Isidro as well as Mayor Ben-hur Abalos of Mandaluyong City told the media that the former Ex-Chairman of the COMELEC was truly rushed to the hospital with follow-up statements saying that the ex-chair is already resting as of now in order to regain his physical strength.

The Inquirer recalls that Abalos Sr. was hospitalized because the illness that he had previously suffered for long suddenly disturbed his health once again. His condition followed after knowing that he will be facing a non-bailable charge. Isidro said that the 77-year old ex-COMELEC chairman had experienced an organ bleeding.

On the other hand, Mayor Abalos also explained that Abalos Sr was rushed to the hospital after visiting the Supreme Court last Friday.

It was said that Abalos Sr, ex-President Gloria Arroyo and some other government officials were involved in an alleged fraud of elections held last 2007.

There were five COMELEC Commissioners who agreed that Benjamin Abalos Sr, Arroyo, together with some officials must face charges.

The COMELEC Commissioners who favoured to file the allegations were Sixto Brillantes, Augusto Lagman, Christian Lim, Rene Sarmiento and Elias Yusoph whereas Armando Velasco and Lucenito Tagle were the ones who abstained to cast their votes.
