MANILA, Philippines – Following the warm heroes’ welcome upon their arrival, the Philippine Dragon Boat Team is hoping the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) will put them under its wings to be recognized as a national sport.
According to the Philippine Dragon Boat Federation (PDBF) president Marcia Cristobal, they wanted to have a strong bond to gain more opportunities to represent the country in any other competition abroad.
Just recently, PSC Chairman Richie Garcia greeted the team through email together with a good news that the PDBF is now among the National Sports (–foul word(s) removed–)ociation (NSA).
Meanwhile, the team is getting ready for their next quest this year competing against the finest paddlers in Asia.
Next year, they are sure they could get into Asian dragon boat championships.
In 2013, they are set to defend their titles in the world championships.
Moreover, President Aquino (–foul word(s) removed–)ured the team that he will personally look into things to eliminate political will in the national sport. If he does what he says, the PDBF may be put under PSC in no time, and they will receive the funding they need to practice and compete with the finest paddlers in the world.
