Former president and now Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal- Arroyo was diagnosed with damaged-cervical spine with multi-level cervical spondylosis and will undergo an operation within the week.
Dr. Juliet Cervantes, her attending physician said that Arroyo’s condition can lead to paralysis, and an operation must be done immediately.
Cervantes also noted the danger in this operation.
“The surgery will decompress the nerves and align the cervical bones. The surgery is risky since it involves the spinal cord and nerves that enable hand movement and breathing.”
Cervantes believes that recent news developments such as allegations of plunder and poll fraud accused by current administration aggravated Arroyo’s condition.
As a show of support, Malacanang urged the public to pray for a fast recovery of Arroyo.
“We wish Representative Arroyo well. We hope that she will have a successful surgery,” Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda told a press conference.
“We ask the people to pray for her,” Lacierda added.
