Boracay Island was voted as one of the best island in the world according to the latest list published by the website www.travelandleisure.com in one of its category, 2011 world’s best island. Boracay Island had been known for its white sandy beaches and tropical marine diversity. One of the premiere tourist destination not only in Asia but in the world as a whole.

Boracay Island was located at 315 km. (200 miles) south of Manila and 2 km. off the northeast of Panay Island. The island which was approximate 7 kilometers long and had a total land area of 10.32 square kilometers. It is one of the most visited island in the Philippines.

With the latest ranking published by one of the most respected travel magazine worldwide it will be an added points to Boracay Island. The Travel + Leisure magazine had an estimated 4.8 million readers and published 12 times a year. Headquarters of the travel magazine was located at New York City.

The magazines had a wide readerships having international editions in different countries worldwide. Some of its affiliates were located in Australia and New Zealand, China, Turkey, Russia Southeast Asia, Mexico and India.

Boracay Island was ranked at number 4 for ranking of 2011. It was the first time that Boracay had been included in the List of 10 Best Islands in the world. The island had garnered a total percentage score of 89.83.

One of the significant twist with the 2011 list of world’s best island was the Galapagos Island which was dropped to the lowest rank at number 10 after it was considered as the best island last year. The island which ranked #1 was Santorini, Greece which go up from the previous #6 ranking in 2010.

The south-east asian island of Bali, Indonesia ranked at #2 which also climbed two notch higher from #4 last 2010. It was followed by an island from Nova Scotia, the Cape Briton Island which was not ranked last year as one of the top 10. Boracay Island debuted for the first time after years of no inclusion to the list although it is one of the most recognized island in the world.

The World’s Best Issue will be published on July 22, 2011 by the leading travel and leisure magazine in the world. Titles such as the top 10 World’s Best island were awarded based upon the votes of readers. Another Southeast Asian World’s Best Awardee was the city of Bangkok in Thailand. The city landed at  the #1 spot as the Best City in the World.
