
Alyssa Campanella as the Miss California now grabs the crown for the 2011 Miss USA pageant on Sunday. With that, Campanella is set to compete in the upcoming Miss Universe 2011 on September 12 which will be held in Sao Paolo, Brazil.
The event was held at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino at Las Vegas where 51 candidates representing their own states vied for the crown.
Swaggered with her dark turquoise beaded gown, Miss California was able to deliver her response to the question concerning the legalization of marijuana in the country. According to her, marijuana is abused at present that is why she is against it.
She adds that marijuana could be okay for those who need it for some medical reasons. In this sense, Campanella didn’t think that marijuana could solve problems against illegal drugs. Thus, it should not be completely legalized given that marijuana is almost 15 years legal in California.
After some problems which came across before the event, Campanella happily shares during the conference that everything came with a purpose telling them that she is seemingly destined to win the crown.
The naturally blonde beauty queen started joining pageants as young as 15 while she started modelling at 16 because of her mother’s encouragement. In 2007 she had already been crowned as Miss Teen USA runner-up while she represented the state of New Jersey.
On her website, she finished high school just last year and was granted a scholarship for New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts.
On the other hand, the first runner-up title went to Ashley Durham representing Miss Tennessee. Next to her is Madeline Mitchel as Miss Alabama placing third as Miss Texas known to be Ana Christina Rodriguez got the fourth place.
Rima Fakih, 25, being the Miss USA 2010 had finally turned over her crown to Campanella.
Candidates from the 2011 Miss USA pageant went into swimsuit competition, evening gown competition and finally contended with the question and answer portion.
Special awards were also given such as Miss Congeniality USA that went to Kia Ben-et Hampton as Miss Kentucky whereas the award for Miss Photogenic USA was handed to Brittany Dawn Brannon representing Miss Arizona.
