A request for explanation has already been sent by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to the China protesting the construction activities being made near the Spratly Island.

It was recently reported by the Philippine Military that they have spotted a Chinese ship in the southwestern Palawan carrying several materials that will be used for construction.

According to Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto del Rosario,the construction being made by China near the Spratly Island, clearly show that it has violated the 2002 accord that states each countries must exercise restraint.

After the summoned protest to China, a meeting has been organized by both parties where the DFA has expressed its concern to the China Emb(–foul word(s) removed–)y regarding its plan next month to build an oil rig in the South China Sea.

In the said meeting, DFA has requested to China Emb(–foul word(s) removed–)y a full report regarding the exact location to where the mega oil rig will be established and stressed out that it should not be built within the territory of the Philippines.

Both parties discussed the issue thoroughly in order to maintain the good relationship between the two countries.

The DFA also said that they acknowledge the importance of having a peaceful and stable relationship with in the two countries. And they believed that it is the responsibility of each country to make the area a peaceful zone by consulting and conducting a dialogue for better understanding.

Many are claiming the Spratly Island for it is known having a rich source of oil and this includes China, Philippines and four other countries.
