World’s Oldest Man: Jiroemon Kimura Celebrated his 114th Birthday

The World’s oldest man living, Jiroemon Kimura celebrated his 114th birthday last Tuesday, April 14, 2011 at his home in Kyotango, Kyoto. Beating the record of Walter Breuning, Kimura at the age of 113 years old was given the title of the oldest living man. He was also Japan’s oldest man living after Tomoji Tanabe death on June 19, 2009.

Born in 1897, he is living with his 82 year old eldest son and 58 year old grandson. With the help of a walker he is still able to walk and eating three meals daily. Some of his activities are: waking up early and reads newspaper with the help of a magnifying gl(–foul word(s) removed–), entertaining guest and following live parliamentary debates on television. Kimura as a health conscious and an active man he is choosing foods that are best for his health, the secret for his long life. Living for a long span is still a mystery even to him. Living with his age, he finds it indescribable and honored. Kimura said that living long is his own interpretation but maybe due to some unknown forces of nature.

He is a retired post man and a farmer. His wife died many years ago, they had 7 children, 5 of them are still living, 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grand children, and 8 great-great grand children.

According to World Bank Group, Japanese holds the longest lifespan in the world. Average lifespan of male is 78 years old and 85 for female.

Japanese people are really health conscious they are Eating fish instead of red meat which lowers the risk of heart attacks, the soy products that they have which are a great source of protein help reduce heart disease and high blood pressure, Wheat and buckwheat flour helps in the digestive process and Smaller portions of it reduces the opportunity for excessive eating, Oolong tea counter balances some of the effects of unhealthy food in the body.
