Brooke Castillo was one of the most promising Filipino pilot in the Philippine aviation industry. She was considered as the first Filipino female commercial jet captain.  She worked with flag carrier Philippine Airlines before transferring to its rival the Cebu Pacific Airlines owned and managed by the Gokongwei’s.

Miss Castillo was born from a stable family in Manila, her mother was a manager of a casino while her father was a prominent banker. She had three brothers  also that encouraged her to excel in sports. She was a former member of the Philippine Junior Bowling Team.

Other sports where she excels were women’s basketball, representing the country for the women’s youth basketball team. She had also won a silver medal for the Philippines. Other talents were playing cl(–foul word(s) removed–)ical piano and she managed a local rock band.

Brooke Castillo graduated from the elite University of the Philippines. Her venture into flying have came eventually from an unwanted incident when her friend invited her to take part of the training, she p(–foul word(s) removed–)ed while her friend failed. During the year 1996 she was the first Filipino to fly a commercial jet aricraft.

The single captain of the Cebu Pacific airline’s Airbus A319s and A320s was also an instructor to the Cebu Pacific younger pilots. Cebu Pacific her company have also boasts a total of 14 female pilots. She said that women have higher advantage in terms of paying closer attentions through the smallest details.

In an interview with AFP,  She was quoted as saying “In our profession there are no double standards because you cannot afford to put anyone’s life in danger,” she said.

Another proud Filipina achievers. A positive news not only for her but also for the entire  Philippines as well.
