NEW YORK – Calvin Cordozar Broadus, Jr, better known by his stage name Snoop Dogg an American rapper promotes a new fruit flavored, caffeine-laced alcoholic drink but it has triggered calls for its ban before it will out in the market for sale next month.

The drink that was identified to be called as Blast by Colt 45 which has been manufactured by Pabst Brewing Company was supposed to be release as soon as April 5 next month. There’s video to promote the drink featuring Snoop Dogg with scantily clad young women.

Writer/hip-hop activist Minister Paul Scott said that it was called Colt 45 Blast because they get into the minds of young people and trying to blast it. He added that Snoop Dogg of all people, he must know the result done by the alcohol to all oppressed communities. He further said that when you take in Colt 45, you definitely taking a Colt 45 to your brain.

There’s a 12 percent alcohol content in every of that 23.5 ounce drink and it also comes in different flavors such as grape, raspberry watermelon, strawberry lemonade and blueberry pomegranate. It could be hazardous to young people out there because it can be confused with soft drinks as what the critics said.

John Challis, senior vice president of Daytop Treatment Services said as quoted that “You look at this product and you think it’s a fruit drink,” “They (breweries) are creating a demand, and then offering the supply.” he added.

Recently Blast was called to ban in New York by New York City Councilman Robert Jackson. Jackson’s aide, Martin Collins said that Blast, along with similar drinks, is specifically targeted to younger people. It only masks the effect of alcohol in the short term and it could be dangerous to young people.

A month later, there’s a warning from the Food and Drug Administration saying that caffeinated alcohol drinks were unsafe after a caffeinated alcoholic beverage called Four Loko made headlines last October when nine college students from Washington State were hospitalized due to alcohol poisoning.

Four Loko was then banned in New York and other states. Chicago-based Phusion Projects the maker of Four Loko responded and said that it would no longer add caffeine to Four Loko and the new caffeine-free version is now on store.

Collins said that Blast is the successor to Four Loko. Those shiny, florescent cans draw young people to put in shelves next to drinks like Coca Cola.”
