British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) issued a warning against those people who have received a text or sms message to take precautionary measures regarding the circulated information that pointed BBC as the main source.
The message have warned those people who are living in Asia to keep watched of a possible radiation effects due to Japan’s nuclear reactor meltdown.
According to a flash report which was purportedly came from BBC the possibility of a radiation to spread out across Asia is high. The fake text message have caused panic in the different parts of Asia especially in the Philippines where text message is popular.
BBC have denied the report that they have circulated the text message and the e-mail regarding the radioactive message of precautions among Asian nations.
Here is the content of the circulated e-mail that the BBC have denied.
“BBC Flash news : Japan Government confirms radiation leak at Fukushima nuclear plants. Asian countries should take necessary precautions. If rain comes, remain indoors first 24 hours. Close doors and windows. Swab neck skin with betadine where thyroid area is, radiation hits thyroid first. Take extra precautions.”
“Radiation may hit Philippine at around 4 pm today. If it rains today or in the next few days in Hong Kong. Do not go under the rain. If you get caught out, use an umbrella or raincoat, even if it is only a drizzle. Radioactive particles, which may cause burns, alopecia or even cancer, may be in the rain.”
The e-mail was strongly denied by BBC so they issue their official warning of awareness.
The e-mail message was a potential e-mail scams as well as a fake anti-virus and a possibility of phishing attacks against those who are receiving the said e-mail. Internet users must be aware of this kind of tactics used by the crooks to victimize those who sympathize with the people of Japan.
