Philippines and Colombia has proven to be a tough contender in beauty pageants. Their representatives are some of the candidates to watch out for.
The Rivalry between the Philippines and Colombia in beauty pageant began last year after Ariadna Gutierrez was mistakenly announced by the American comedian and television host Steve Harvey as the winner of the Miss Universe 2015.
During the competition, Philippines and Colombia were considered as the strongest contenders in the major beauty pageant. But Miss Colombia was part of one of the most shocking moments of the last 2015 when she was de-crowned after Steve Harvey announced the winner of the at the Dec. 20 competition.
After that incident, the rivalry arises and their representatives are some of the candidates to watch out for the 65th Miss Universe pageant that will be held in Manila, Philippines on January 30.
In the two recent hotpicks of the pageant analysis of Missosology.org, Maxine and Andrea held the top spots of the hot picks ranking.
But both candidates have no guarantees that one of them can wear the crown or even got the spot of the semifinals. Both Andrea and Maxine still need to work hard to impress the judges and compete for the Miss Universe crown.
The rivalry between Colombia and Philippines will be at play on the forthcoming international pageant and to become the next Miss Universe.
Miss Universe 2016 Colombia Andrea Tovar Velasquez is the daughter of a physician and a businesswoman. She was said to be the first Afro-Colombian delegate since 2001 to represent her country in the most prestigious pageant.
Philippines Bet Maxine Medina has large shoes to fill since the expectations are high for her. Many Filipinos were hoping that she could make the Philippines first back-to-back win for the country.
However, the beauty queen said that she is confident that she will win the crown, as she worked so hard and give everything for the pageant.
She was criticized for her apparent nervousness when answering questions that made some people think that she could lose in the question and answer portion.
The 65th Miss Universe will be held in Mall Of Asia Arena in Pasay City on January 30.
