The same petitioners who sought to block the burial of the late former President Ferdinand Edralin Marcos filed another petition before the Supreme Court on Monday, November 21, seeking to exhume the ‘body’ buried last Friday, November 18.
By the petition, the petitioners want the Supreme Court to order Malacañang Palace and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to exhume immediately “whatever was buried as Marcos remains” at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (LNMB).
Another group of Martial Law torture victims is asking the high court to cite in contempt the officials of the government as well as the heirs of the late dictator for proceeding with the burial last Friday.
Albay Representative Edcel Lagman, who led the filing of the petition, said that the exhumation of Marcos’ remains or “whatever was buried” as his remains would be a form of penalty or discipline.
Lagman explained, a penalty must be imposed for the disrespect of the high court and its rules shown by the officials of the current regime.
